Shop and pump house wiring across the Yakima Valley
Feeders, sub panels, lighting and pump circuits for shops, barns and pump houses on farms, ranches and rural property across the valley.
Chapter 01
Outbuildings run on afterthought wiring
Walk around a farm or rural lot in the valley and the house is usually wired decently, while the shop, the barn and the pump house are an afterthought. An extension cord runs from the house to the shop. A feeder is too small for the welder and the compressor that now live out there. A pump circuit shares a load with the lights, so every time the compressor starts the pump sees a dip.
None of that shows up until something fails. A breaker trips mid-job, a pump runs hot, a motor burns out early, or a cold morning leaves a pump house with no power at all. Fixing it starts the same way every time: work out what the building actually needs to run, then build the supply to match.
Castle Pump & Electric is licensed as an electrical contractor in Washington, CASTLPE842NN, and has served homes, farms and businesses across Yakima and Kittitas counties since 1991. The crew wires the building, and it pulls and sets the pump that building feeds. That shapes how the work is done.

Feeders, sub panels, lighting and pump circuits
A good outbuilding starts with a feeder sized for the load and a sub panel at the building. The sub panel gives the shop its own breakers and a single shutoff, so you are not walking back to the house to reset a tripped circuit. From there, lighting goes on its own circuit, receptacles and shop tools on theirs, and the pump on a circuit of its own.
That last part matters. A well pump or irrigation pump wants a steady supply, and the controls that run it, the pressure switch, the starter or a drive, need a clean feed. Castle works on the controls as well as the wire: pressure tanks, pressure switches, SubDrive systems and VFDs, with Square D controls among the brands it uses.
The trench is part of the job too. Conduit from the house or the meter to the shop or pump house is buried and routed clear of lanes, fences and future digging. In the crew's own photos, one new pump house has a conduit trench running to it under storm clouds, which is the kind of job this page is about.
Chapter 03
Why the pump company should wire the pump house
Split the work between a pump outfit and an electrician and every problem becomes someone else's. The pump company says the power is bad. The electrician says the pump is bad. You pay for both visits and still have no water. One crew that holds the electrical license and pulls the pump can tell which it is on the first call.
Customers see that difference. Jose Sanchez has two wells and more than thirty houses on them, and when he lost a pump he wrote that Rob answered right away and sent Joel and his team, and that “Rob personally went to get the part and delivered it to us.” That is the kind of response a shared well and its wiring need. Castle Pump & Electric, the Tieton listing, shows 4.8 from 64 Google reviews.
If you are building a shop, adding a barn circuit or replacing an old pump house feed, call (509) 580-0470 and tell the crew what the building has to run. For a pump house, it is worth looking at the wellhead and tank side at the same visit. Estimates are free and usually ready within 48 hours, and the shop is open around the clock.
