Wiring, outlets, lighting and EV chargers in Yakima

Receptacles, dimmer switches, oven and microwave circuits, LED lighting and Level 2 EV chargers, installed and repaired by a licensed Yakima electrical contractor.

Chapter 01

Old wiring meets a modern load

Most houses in Yakima and across the valley were wired for fewer things plugged in at once. A kitchen that once ran a toaster and a radio now runs an air fryer, a microwave, a dishwasher and a phone charger at every counter. Receptacles wear out, loosen and run warm, and dimmer switches fail when the load behind them changes. Castle's electricians replace receptacles, dimmer switches and light fixtures, and they run dedicated circuits for oven wiring and microwave wiring so a big appliance has its own breaker instead of sharing one with the toaster.

Lighting is the same story. LED lights draw far less power than the fixtures they replace, which lets a crew relight a room, a garage or a shop without touching the panel, but the dimmer has to suit the lamps or they buzz and flicker. The crew matches the dimmer to the fixture before it goes on the wall. Jill Perry had Castle Electric replace an outlet and described the visit this way: "Small job but was treated like a big job." That is how Alex and the rest of the crew approach a single receptacle and a full rewire alike.

Most electrical repairs start at the $95 hourly rate, and the final price depends on the scope of the work. You get a clear estimate before anything starts. Castle holds Washington L&I electrical contractor license CASTLPE842NN, so the work is done by a licensed contractor rather than a handyman. Call (509) 580-0470 and describe what is tripping, buzzing or dead.

Level 2 EV chargers, panel first

Castle installs a wide range of Level 2 home EV chargers, compatible with Tesla, Ford, Chevy and other electric vehicle brands. A Level 2 charger is a 240-volt circuit with a wall unit on the end of it, and it is one of the heaviest continuous loads a house will ever carry. A dryer runs for an hour. A car charges for most of the night.

That is why the first visit is about the panel, not the charger. The electrician checks how much capacity the service has left and how far it is from the panel to the parking spot. If there is room, the charger goes in as a single job. If there is not, the charger and a panel upgrade become one project, and panel upgrades are typically 200-amp for most homes. Sorting that out before the wall unit is bought saves a second trip and a second invoice.

The Tesla wall connector in the photo above sits in a tack room among the bridles, which says something about where chargers end up in the Yakima Valley. Barns, detached garages and outbuildings are common, and a long run to an outbuilding calls for heavier wire and a proper disconnect. Yadi Yess had Rob and his team install an EV charger as part of a larger list at a new house, and the charger was one line among several.

Chapter 03

A whole-house list in one visit

When Yadi Yess moved into a new home, Rob and his team replaced an old electrical panel, installed a new meter, ran power to a sauna, installed an EV charger, ran electrical to a hot tub, fixed several light switches and outlets, ran power to a garbage disposal and installed new light fixtures. The review ends: "They are fast, efficient and professional." A list that long is where a single licensed crew earns its keep, because the panel, the meter and the new circuits are planned together instead of discovered one at a time.

Customers keep naming the same two electricians. Dave Johnson wrote: "Omar and Alex are very capable and kind electricians who quickly diagnose and repair any household electric issues we have here in Yakima." Jocelyn Tinoco praised Jesus for telling her immediately when an unexpected issue came up and laying out the options. Rob Weaver, the owner, answers the phone and sends the right person.

Castle is also the Yakima crew that pulls well pumps, so wiring above grade and water below it come from one company. If your list includes a pump house, a shop or a well circuit, say so on the first call. The shop answers any hour of the day, every day of the week, at (509) 580-0470.

"They are fast, efficient and professional." Yadi Yess, Google review, 5 stars. Castle Pump & Electric holds Washington L&I electrical contractor license CASTLPE842NN.
