Electric gate wiring from the panel to the operator
Power from the source to the gate operator for driveway gates and large agricultural access gates, run and connected so the gate works and stays safe.
Chapter 01
Most gate operators fail from bad power, not bad hardware
A gate operator is a motor and a control board, and both are fussy about the power they get. When a gate stutters, opens halfway, resets itself or dies after a storm, the operator is often blamed first. The wiring is usually the real problem: a long run on cable that is too small, a connection left open to the weather, or a circuit with no real protection on it.
Voltage drop is the quiet culprit on long runs. Power loses strength over distance, and the thinner the wire, the more it loses. A gate set back from the road, or at the far end of a long farm lane in the Yakima Valley, can sit a long way from the panel. By the time current reaches the operator it may be too weak to start the motor on a cold morning, though it tests fine at the panel.
Unprotected connections are the other common failure. Splices and terminations outdoors need to be sealed against irrigation spray, dust and freezing, and the circuit needs proper protection at the source. Castle Pump & Electric is a licensed Washington electrical contractor, CASTLPE842NN, and it wires the gate the same way it wires a service: sized for the load and built for the weather.

From a driveway gate to an agricultural access gate
Castle's own description of this work covers a wide range, from a driveway gate at your Yakima home to a large access gate at an agricultural property. The job in both cases is the same: the connection from the power source to the gate system. What changes is the distance, the trench and the size of the circuit.
On a town lot that may be a short run from the garage panel or a nearby sub panel. On a farm or ranch, it can mean trenching a long way across open ground, sometimes along the same route as other power to a shop or a pump house. Farms, ranches and rural property are customers Castle serves every week.
The wire should be sized for the distance, buried where it will not be cut, and there should be a disconnect where the operator can be shut off for service. If you are already planning to run power to an outbuilding, it is usually cheaper to bring the gate circuit along while the ground is open than to open it again later.
Chapter 03
Working with your gate installer
Most gate installers handle the operator, the hardware and the controls, and leave the line-voltage power to a licensed electrician. Castle covers the electrical side. Before connecting an automatic gate, the crew checks what the operator actually calls for, confirms the supply matches, sizes the circuit and wire to suit, and makes sure the disconnect and grounding are in place.
Good coordination saves a return trip. Ask the installer for the operator's power requirements and where the control box will sit, and pass that along when you call. If the gate is not purchased yet, call first: the crew can tell you what power the location can support, which sometimes changes which operator makes sense.
